As indigenous Afrikan traditions begin to grow and
expand in this country we must also have political, social, and
economic action allowing our ancient spiritual systems to
represent true freedom for the New Afrikan conscious. As
pertains to the focus of this book a key internal political
component of this will be the bringing together of key and
essential aspects and concepts from what appear on the
surface to be different indigenous Afrikan spiritual systems which in reality have all one common asili (Ki-Swahili for“origins, beginnings, essence of a people”). We have chosen to use the term Vodún in reference to the overall system because of the encompassing nature of the term and its tendency even on the continent to amalgamate other Afrikan traditions by focusing on similarity instead of differences.
There is an essential and powerful political component of this work. We show clearly in this work how one's spiritual tradition is indeed political and not separate as some have been tricked into believing. And we go further in showing how to apply this political ideology from a nationalistic perspective.
